# Trump Orders Release of Assassination Files: A Step Toward Transparency

In a significant move, former President Donald Trump has ordered the declassification and release of all remaining files related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy (JFK), Robert F. Kennedy (RFK), and Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK). This executive order, signed on January 24, 2025, aims to shed light on incidents that have fueled decades of conspiracy theories and public speculation.

Trump proclaimed, “This is a big one. A lot of people have been waiting for this for years, for decades,” emphasizing the public's long-standing demand for clarity regarding these pivotal moments in American history. The order requires the director of national intelligence to provide a plan within 15 days for the full release of JFK-related documents, followed by a plan for the other two assassinations within 45 days.

The assassination of JFK on November 22, 1963, remains one of the most scrutinized events in American history. Despite the findings of the Warren Commission, a Gallup poll in 2023 indicated that 65% of Americans do not believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in JFK's assassination. Allegations of CIA involvement in both JFK and RFK’s deaths continue to circulate, particularly following statements from RFK Jr. regarding “overwhelming” evidence of intelligence agency connections.

Critics of the release, including Jack Schlossberg, JFK's grandson, argue that using these historical files for political purposes diminishes the gravity of the events and the legacies of those involved. He stated that such declassification can be perceived as using JFK as a political prop.

The move comes after years of public outcry for transparency. In 1992, Congress mandated that files related to JFK’s assassination be released unless national security concerns outweighed public interest. While Trump previously ordered the release of thousands of documents in 2017, many files remained classified under pressure from agencies like the CIA and FBI.

As this new wave of document release unfolds, it may not only provide closure to many but also reignite debates about the circumstances surrounding these tragic events. The public's quest for truth continues, and the implications of these revelations could be profound.
